Northern California forecast: Hot in valley and foothills, thunderstorms in the Sierra
IT. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. TIME FOR KCRA 3 WEATHER. LET’S CHECK IN NOW WITH KELLY KERR. AND A GREAT DAY TO HEAD OUT TO THE FARMER’S MARKET EARLY. YEAH ABSOLUTELY A GREAT DAY FOR THAT. AND TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW ARE STILL PRETTY COMFORTABLE. BUT WE’RE GOING TO BE HEATING UP FAST. IN FACT RIGHT NOW WE’RE ALREADY AT 74 DEGREES. THERE ARE A FEW CLOUDS AROUND. WE’RE GOING TO SEE MORE SUNSHINE AS THE AFTERNOON WEARS ON. BUT YEAH, LOOK AT THAT HIGH. BY 4:00. WE’RE TALKING 103 DEGREES. WE’RE ALSO TRACKING RAIN SHOWERS THAT ARE MOVING THEIR WAY NORTHWEST THROUGH THE AREA. MOST OF THESE ARE PRETTY LIGHT, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW FLASHES OF LIGHTNING HERE RIGHT ALONG 50 IN EL DORADO COUNTY. THAT HAPPENED ABOUT THREE HOURS AGO. NO REPORTS OF ANY FIRES, AT LEAST NOT YET. SO THAT’S GOOD NEWS. MOST OF THE RAIN, LIKE I SAID, IS GENERALLY COMING DOWN PRETTY LIGHT. BUT AS WE HEAD FURTHER TO THE NORTH, UP INTO PLUMAS COUNTY, THAT’S WHERE ACTUALLY SEEING SOME MODERATE RAIN COMING DOWN IN THOSE SHADES OF YELLOW AND ORANGE THAT HOPEFULLY HELPING OUT WITH THE FIREFIGHTERS TRYING TO PUT OUT THE PARK FIRE AND ALSO HELPING OUT THE AIR QUALITY THERE A LITTLE BIT. AS WELL. NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT FUTURECAST AS WE SET THIS IN MOTION, WE DO EXPECT TO SEE STORMS FIRING UP ALONG THE CREST OF THE SIERRA AS WE GET LATER INTO THE AFTERNOON. SO THIS IS RIGHT AROUND NOON TODAY. ALPINE COUNTY MONO COUNTY, GETTING INTO EL DORADO COUNTY THERE AS WELL. AND THEN THEY’RE GOING TO TRACK THEIR WAY NORTHWARD AGAIN. RAIN. THAT’S SOMETHING WE DEFINITELY WOULD LIKE TO SEE. THE LIGHTNING THOUGH. THAT IS A CONCERN AND SOMETHING WE’RE GOING TO BE MONITORING. WE DON’T WANT TO SEE ANY NEW FIRES SPARKING UP. SO AS FAR AS THE AIR QUALITY GOES, MOST OF US ARE IN THE GOOD TO MODERATE RANGE AND THAT INCLUDES THE LAKE TAHOE AREA. BUT AS WE HEAD FURTHER TO THE NORTH, ESPECIALLY AROUND LAKE ALMANOR, THAT’S WHERE THE WORST AIR QUALITY IS. ROCHESTER AND ALSO LASSEN NATIONAL PARK. WE’RE SEEING SOME PRETTY AWFUL AIR QUALITY THERE, TOO. NOW LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE SMOKE FORECAST. NOW THIS SMOKE IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUSH ITS WAY TO THE EAST. WE DO EXPECT TO SEE AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT OF THAT AROUND THE LAKE TAHOE AREA, BUT EXPECTED TO IMPROVE AS WE GET INTO THE AIR AFTER NOON. UNFORTUNATELY, UP AROUND THE PARK FIRE, WE WILL STILL SEE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT HAZY, SMOKY CONDITIONS AS THE FIRE CONTINUES TO BURN, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE AT LEAST THE AIR QUALITY IMPROVING FOR TODAY. SEVEN DAY FORECAST FOR THE SIERRA CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS TODAY, ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH AROUND 83 DEGREES. WARMING UP TO 90 DEGREES BY TUESDAY FOR FOOTHILLS. WE’LL SEE HIGHS TODAY IN THE UPPER 90S, BUT THERE’S STILL PLENTY OF TRIPLE DIGITS IN THE FORECAST FOR YOU AS WELL. AND FOR SACRAMENTO, TODAY’S HIGH 103 102 FOR TOMORROW AT LEAST. THE MORNING LOWS WILL BE IN THE 60S FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK AND NOT QUITE AS WARM AS WHAT WE’RE STARTING OUT WITH TODAY. THE HOTTEST DAY IN THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST. THAT’S GOING TO BE TUESDAY, WITH A HIGH AROUND 105. AND THEN WE’LL START COOLING BACK DOWN SLOWLY. BUT YEAH, IT’S TIME TO LOOK FOR SOME POOL LAKE THE RIVER. SOME WAY TO COOL OFF THIS AFTERNOON. OR MAYBE A MOVIE THEATER OR THE LIBRARY. THOSE ARE ALWAYS GREAT AIR CONDITIONED OPTIONS TOO.
